Rising Against the Tide-The Emergence of Chinese Beauty in South Korea
2025-01-02
Breaking away from the past challenges posed by the "Korean wave," with the rise of domestic cosmetics companies and brands, more and more Chinese beauty products are beginning to enter South Korea in reverse.
Data released by the Korean Statistical Office shows that cross-border shopping for Chinese cosmetics in the Korean market is growing by 60% to 70% annually.
In just the first three quarters of this year, the scale of Korean consumers' purchases of Chinese cosmetics through e-commerce platforms increased by 60.7% year-on-year, reaching 165.4 billion won (approximately $122 million).
Of course, this phenomenon has been significant since last year. According to a report by CCTV's Financial Channel at that time, in just the first eight months of 2023, China's cosmetics exports to South Korea rose by about 190% year-on-year.
Moreover, the export growth rate of domestic cosmetics has been noticeable in recent years, reaching a full-year growth rate of 22.8% in 2023.
